We started the day as we did in 2006, at The Mango Deck! A great breakfast and a well poured drink to start a vacation day! We bought some t shirts and headed out to explore the town. We found some suntan lotion and stuff to heal a sunburn for me (I´m bound to get too much sun sometime down here!)
After wandering we decided to lay by the pool and get some rays! Didn´t I tell you I would need that sunburn stuff? Well, not only me! Steve got quite a bit of color too. I had sunscreen on and we didn´t stay too long, It´s just my skin. It will burn and then....brown for the year.
We hit the Whale Watchers Bar again for a little pizza for lunch and a Mojito, yum, and then went back to the room for a much needed nap.
Now here I am writing this stuff so I guess it´s time to find out where we go for dinner.
Ill fill you in later!
It´s later. We start out to go to Loranzillo´s Lobster House, but when Steve saw that the lobster were alive and in a tank he blanched, so I knew it was not for tonight. We have decided that we will go tomorrow and not have lobster. The place looked really nice, and not tooooo pricey.
We ended up at Alexander´s along the marina. We had seen it and their adverising in the Cabo books, so we figured it would be nice. We ordered the Chateaubriand for 2 and we were thrilled. They precook it a bit in the kitchen, and then prepare the meat and sauce at the table on a gas grill. It was quite the presentation. It was too much food though. Something like 40 oz. of meat. Way more than we could finish, but we enjoyed every bite.
We got back to the hotel and watched a bit of a movie and headed to sleep. The sunburns didn´t keep us awake.

We are in beautiful Cabo San Lucas for a few days to celebrate my 60th birthday. I just have a hard time believing that I have lived this many years. I keep thinking, as do we all, that I´m the age I feel. Like 40?
Our flight was delayed by an hour for a flight from Seattle with 35 Cabo visitors that had fueling trouble. We finally made it and got to the Finisterra Hotel. In the past this has been our favorite hotel. This trip the room left a little to be desired. I will post the photos and you will see. Our room had very little view but a great draft directly from the parking garage so we had a wonderful exhaust smell at least part of the time. Yum....
I did go to the desk and ask for another room but none were to be had except at higher prices in the new section. I should have taken it but I don´t like that kind of treatment. Other than that, the help and the hotel grounds are as lovely as ever. And it won´t ruin our time at all!!!
The first night we headed into the marina area and found out that our favorite restaurant, Los Garcia, was closed. Too bad. So we had a drink at El Galleria and headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. But first, a stop at the Whale Watcher´s bar at the Finisterra. It´s always friendly and they make a good drink. The Quesadilla was great too.
Mi Casa. We had asked people for good restaurants and always the first one mentioned was Mi Casa. They were right.
Other than the crazy old, kinda run down village type decor, the place ws great. We both had their Carnitas and were really pleased.
We came back to the hotel and turned in. It had been a long day.

Gorgeous day here in San Diego. Bet it's great in Palm Springs too.
It's been a busy one. We started the day with the chiropractor. For me it was my neck and for Steve it was further treatment for the sciatic pain he has been having. They both seem to be improving, but Steve's is a more dramatic improvement. He is not having the screaming pain he was having before. Still not out of the woods, but better.
Buster, however, is a worry right now. He has some kind of mouth infection that didn't clear up with the traditional antibiotic he was given. Now we have had to go to blood tests to see what's up. We should know tomorrow. Hopefully nothing that a different antibiotic won't cure.
Mother had a worrisome endoscopy on Tuesday. They found something in her thorasic area with the scope, but don't know yet what it is. She has blood work to get done and then a cat scan. We are all trying not to worry, but you know how that goes. Once again, don't think about the pink elephant in the room. Yeah, that works.
But the day is gorgeous, and I'm cooking a corned beef with cabbage since I didn't get any for St Patricks day. Yum.
The tile seems to be going good according to Chuck. They should be grouting soon. Maybe now.
We are getting things in order for our upcoming trip to Cabo San Lucas. We leave Sunday AM and will return Wednesday PM. I figured that from there no one from here could hear me scream when I turn 60 on Tuesday. YIKES. I'm barely thirty. How did this happen?
But truly, I lost so many friends to AIDS in their 30's and 40's that for me every year is a gift. Steve and I were so lucky to have each other in those times and avoided HIV. We are always aware of how fortunate we were to find each other when we did.
So I won't scream too loudly unless it is for a Margarita!!

Sunday was a perfect day.
The sun was out and the day was warm without being too hot. We uncovered the pool and took a wonderful morning swim, and layed on the new pool floats for awhile. The sun and the water felt magnificent.
We had theater tickets for 4:00 in the afternoon for Leslie Jordan's new one man show called My Trip Down The Pink Carpet. Miss Hildy and Chuck's friend Ron were going with us and first came over to the house for snacks and drinks before heading for the Annenberg Theater for the show. Chuck had put together quite a spread with chicken salad, mini Reuben sandwiches, sweets and cheesecake in four flavors.
The show was great fun. Leslie Jordan is so hysterical anyway, and in person, telling his history in show business was really sidesplitting. We are so glad we didn't miss this show. We missed his last show "Like A Dog On Linoleum" and have been deprived because of it.
After the show Randy and Wayne came over for one last visit before going back to Canada. They will still be here in Palm Springs next week but we will be in Cabo San Lucas for my birthday trip so we won't see them again this year. Unless........
(Word is out! Ha ! They are looking at some manufactured homes here in Palm Springs to buy! That would be just the best. We would have them in our life more often. More good people are what we need in our lives. I hope I hope I hope.)
We had cocktails and some more of the wonderful food that Chuck made earlier in the day. The visit was great and by the time they had to leave, it was time for us to cover the pool and retire for the night.
Like I said, it was a perfect day.
It's Monday morning and we are getting ready to go back to San Diego. The tile layers are here and working really hard. (They got behind on Friday because one of them got a nasty cut from the small tile saw. Yikes! He's better now though.) The kitchen and breakfast room/bar is laid, and muchof the already cut edges are laid now. All that is left is Chuck's room and the hall, part of the media room and the master bath.
I gotta tell you, it looks better and better. I can hardly wait to see it grouted, but that has to wait until after Cabo. It really is hard to buy a large tile, just one, and try to imagine how it will look throughout the entire house. I must say we picked a winner. The house is looking great.
Steve is still in severe sciatic pain. We got back in San Diego in time for his chiropractic appointment. I sure hope it helps. A two hour flight to Cabo San Lucas is not going to be too much fun with the level of pain he has right now. Poor guy.

Steve's problems are not over. Now he is suffering from a severe attack of sciatica. He really is in severe pain and has trouble standing up and getting down. It's hard to see him suffer so much.
We had an especially busy week socially. We were out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Monday we found a great little burger joint in North Park Called The Commonwealth Cafe. Great sliders and Fries, and a treat called The Stoner's Bowl - macaroni and cheese and chili! A real healthy combo right?
Tuesday we went to dinner with Ari and Alex from House.Boi and Ari's parents George and Karen Clare. The Clare's live part time in San Diego and the rest of the time in Scotsdale.
We had the best time. We went to a restaurant named Vagabond. It's on 30th Street near Juniper, and has a wonderful, if adventurous, menu. It has things as diverse as Indonesian Curry and Coq au Vin. I understand that the Steak au Poive is excellent, but we all, with the exception of Alex, ordered the special fruit stuffed pork chop. It was really wonderfil. The service was great and the decor was really unusual and charming.
the company was the best. We really loved spending time getting to know Goerge and Karen. What a fun couple. Interesting and interested. And we always enjoy our time with Ari and Alex. Thanks for a great evening and I hope we can do it many more times.
Wednesday was another fun evening. One of my client/ friends wanted to take Steve and I to dinner for my upcoming birthday. She took us to a Louisiana soul food place called Magnolia's down in South East San Diego. It's in a shopping center at Euclid and Market Streets. It's a nice little place with really good food. Steve and Theresa had the fried catfish and I had the chicken and andouille sausage jambalay. We had hushpuppies and fried okra and barbequed shrimp. Lots of food. Then we had to have dessert so Steve had peach cobbler while I wolfed down the best Sweet Potato pie ever!!! Man were we full! Thanks again to Theresa for a wonderful evening.
Thursday night Chuck came over from Palm Springs for a night at the theater. Out In San Diego is a gay theater group that was having an evening at the Globe theater. For $19 they supplied hor d'oeurves, a martini bar, and a great dessert table from Heaven Sent Desserts on 30th Street. It was really great.
The play we attended was a great new musical called Dancing In The Dark. It was based on the MGM musical The Band Wagon and starred Scott Bakula. Man what a show!!! The music was so grand and memorable and the choreography was beyond what we usually see in San Diego. We all wanted our tap shoes on the way out! Great fun.
Friday night we went to the Gathering. We hadn't been there for two weeks what with my somach flu last the week before. We are so lucky that we are missed when we don't show up. Mike and Heather were there with some other friends. Then Jim and Sharon showed up and the fun began. Sharon always gets someone, then everyone, dancing. They area such a fun couple from Point Loma and we just don't get to see them enough. We got their number and are planning to go play in their neighborhood. That should be fun. I'll have to brush up on my dancing.
Saturday we drove to Palm Springs right after work, dropped of the dog and cat and headed down to Ray's house for dinner. Randy and Wayne were there and their friends from Canada, Bob and Jim. It was a burger/sausage barbeque with the best baked beans and a wonderful salad. Best was the company.
We haven't gotten to see Ray for a while as he has really been suffering sciatica since New Years day. With Steve now having it, I thought they would talk about treatment a bit more than they did, but....... The important thing was getting to see him and the boys. Soon Randy and Wayne will be headed back to Canada and they won't be coming back to CA. next year.

Well, this last two weeks have been incredibly impossibly busy.
First of all, on the way back from Palm Springs two weeks ago, Steve had a memory problem that continued through the day. He was confused and had trouble remembering friends of ours that we had dinner with the week before. He couldn't use the computer right and other manifestations. He felt disconnected and fuzzy, and had a hard time telling reality from dreams according to him.
I fell like we did the wrong thing but he waited till the next day to call the doctor and they sent hom directly to the Emergency Room of Sharp hospital. We should have gone on Monday night when we knew something was amiss. We just didn't really think it was too important till we had a chance for things to settle in.
When he got to the hospital they tested him for stroke and looked for brain tumors, neither of which were evident, Thank God. They came to the conclusion that it must have been a medication episode, but since his cardiologist, who was on duty at the hospital, and who had prescribed the medications, refused to visit him or get involved in his care, we really don't have a clear picture yet of what caused the problem.
It is not over yet, but has much improved. While he still asks questions and is unclear on some things, he is back to really clear on most things. Now we have to find another cardiologist to backtrack and try to get the medications back on track to protect his heart and blood pressure.
No sooner than we had that on the right track, I got the stomach flu. Not nearly as serious, but as dibilitating. I couldn't move. It only lasted 24 hours, but left me weak for the following two days.
Needless to say, I have neglected the blog during this time and will try to get back on track.
This weekend in Palm Springs was wonderful.
We headed for The Salton Sea to visit friends who were attending the Tow/Rainbow rally there. Randy and Wayne were who we went to visit and we spent a wonderful afternoon with them. It was great to spend a little bit more time with those two. They are just the best and so comfortable and loving to be with. And we got to see Dakota the Great Dane too.
Sorry to say that Randy's step father passed away on Friday. Things have been upset and busy for him and his family. Our condolences and love.
Rainbow Restaurant closes today so we went Saturday for a last dinner and went last night for the last show and gathering. It was really busy as the community came out to show support and love for an icon in the Palm Springs gay community.
I guess tonight they will have a St Patricks day festivity and then close the doors. Sad. Another wonderful gay hot spot gone. We will miss it.
As I write, the workers are tiling the Palm Springs house. They are here right now and I have to end this writing so I can get the furniture moved to tile the media room. It is looking beautiful and I will try to post an in progress picture this afternoon in the gallery.
Ta Ta for now.
